I love working for Roland DG, and I love the job I do. I’m proud to say that we honestly try to be more than just a supplier to our customers, and a great number think of us as a partner – a consultant if you will.
We regularly get customers visiting the Roland Creative Centre at our head office, looking for inspiration and the question I get asked the most is “which printer should I buy?” My honest advice on this one is “Buy the widest printer you can afford – within reason of course!” It all boils down to what you intend to use your printer for and giving yourself the most flexibility in terms of the applications you can produce. In other words, reducing the times you need to say “no we can’t produce that.”
At the recent Printwear & Promotion exhibition, the VersaStudio BN-20 print & cut machine was again the most popular machine of the show, and rightly so as it is perfect for the garment decoration market, but when considering the potential investment people always ask “why should I buy and what else can I do with it?”
The BN-20 uses the same EcoSolvent ink and print head technology as Roland’s 64” flagship SolJet Pro 4 XR-640, but the 20” width limits the BN-20 to produce the right width of output on the right material. PVC banner for example; the most common sized banner people get asked for is 2 foot x 6 foot – just too big to fit on a BN-20, so now we should be looking at the 30” VersaCamm SP-300i if you want to supply these as well. The next product that frequently comes up is a pull up banner… Most pull ups are supplied at 800mm width – again just too big to fit on a 30” printer, so now the customer should be looking at the VersaCamm VS-540i as its 54” width will easily accommodate these with room to spare. 54” printers are very versatile, but what if you are asked to supply 60” x 40” posters? These will fit easily on a 54” printer, but a 64” machine will allow you to print the graphic widthways, giving better usage from you media and also a faster production time – adding up to more profitability.
All this leads us to the door of the newly launched TrueVIS VG-640 – the most advanced print & machine the world has ever seen.
Forget the nitty gritty of the state of the art technical details for a moment and consider the headlines… All new ink and print head technology, giving amazing quality prints at amazing speeds. 64” width for maximum application choice. Print & Cut, giving a more productive workflow. A huge choice of compatible materials, from vinyl to banner, wallpaper to static cling, paper to pull-up…White ink, allowing graphics to be produced on both coloured and clear materials. This all adds up to printer package that gives unrivalled capabilities and the most chances you will be able to say ‘Yes’ when your customer asks if you can produce their job.
If you are considering the next step for your business and are looking at which printer is right for you, plan for the future… Plan for a TrueVIS VG-640.
