A crash course on web to print

We spent the morning with the charismatic Greg Young, who led an interactive session on the technicalities behind web to print – emphasising on what it is and why it’s so important in this day and age.

The possibilities are endless. Web to print essentially means using the web for a print business. It is an incredibly broad area that is constantly evolving and creating new opportunities for those in the print business.

#hashtagsarethewayforward We kicked off the day by creating hashtags to break the ice and explain our level of web to print expertise. You wouldn’t be surprised to learn that mine was #absolutelyclueless but this didn’t last for long.

Greg ensured that he got to know the backgrounds of everyone participating so that he could tailor the course to the needs of those in attendance. It was a nice touch to make sure that no-one felt as though the information given wasn’t relevant to them.

There is profit in personalisation.  As we ventured further into the world of digital packaging, Greg displayed to us how personalising a product could in some instances, by established brands, triple the profit made.

Planning precedes perfection. In order to deliver the perfect customer experience, we understood better how the planning beforehand could be extremely important to ensure that all bases had been covered. Before creating mock-up of the website, the customer journey, for example, would need to be explored in depth.

Business advice from the best. Suzanne Rouart, took over the afternoon’s session with more of a focus on marketing, particularly digital marketing. We all know that consumer’s research companies before using them, so the footprint you leave on the internet could either make or break you.

The popularity stakes – Suzanne gave us a crash course on search engine optimization (SEO) by walking us through the Meta information and everything else that goes into creating your SEO. Understanding all these different aspects and the importance of getting them right makes all the difference in this digital world.

Social media takeover. Social media is becoming more and more of a crucial tool when it comes to digital advertising. The different platforms all help elevate various aspects of advertising and if you know how to use it correctly, it could become a huge asset to the company.

Integration is key. The most important lesson we learnt was that the brand should convey a clear & consistent voice in order to build up story and create brand loyalty.

The Apprentice – Antalis Academy style. We finished with a group activity focused on creating a digital marketing strategy to launch a new hypothetical online brand. We got to put our new marketing skills to use and explored avenues that hadn’t previously been touched on.

Overall this workshop was the perfect combination of relevant information, passionate teaching and stimulating activities – making it one of my favourite workshops.
